Why Buy Used? Part 2.

We've explored some of the reasons to buy used as opposed to brand new. Money seems to be the mitigating factor for most people, there is also the case of a particular car that may no longer be manufactured. For arguments sake let's imagine that you are driving a 2002 Buick LeSabre that you love and for some unseen reason the Buick is totaled. How are you going to replace a 2002 Buick LeSabre when it is no longer manufactured? The answer is simple, you are going to have to start the used car search. Not only are you able to replace your beloved LeSabre but you also have the oppurutunity to save money on that purchase by not paying for a brand new one.

Another example would be waiting lists. When gas was averaging over $4.00 a gallon in Utah the Toyota Prius had a six month waiting list. Savy used car dealerships purchased every Prius that went across the auction block to stock their lots with. In this case you saved money over buying brand new, avoided paying premium prices for a limited vehicle, and you didn't have to wait to start saving on your gas bill.

Finally you can always cater your used vehilce to meet your needs. Smart dealerships with resources will be able to help you install features that you want in your new vehicle that it may not be equipped with. That DVD player that would make long trips with kids so much more bearable can easily be installed at a small cost. Do you want leather seats and it is not equipped with them? Ask your dealer how much it would cost to have them added, now you have brand new leather that has never been used before. Does the vehicle not have a MP3 input? I bet they can add that too. This is just a short list of the many features that a capable dealership can offer to have installed in your vehicle for you.

Why Buy Used?

Over the next couple of weeks I am going to be breaking down one of our advertising points, that point being "Why Buy Used?"

Today's entry will get right to the core, "Why Buy Used?" and the simple answer is MONEY.

Have you ever taken a moment to break down the cost associated with a brand new car? On every new car sold you want to take into account that the advertising for that vehicle is being paid for by you. The full tank of gas that comes with that vehicle is being paid for by you. The transport truck that delivers the vehicle to the dealership is paid for by you. The fancy aftermarket wheels that the dealer put on are paid for by you.

One of the advantages of buying a used vehicle is ability to have these cost deferred by letting someone else take the depreciation hit. Additionally you can adapt your desired vehicle to your budget. Because no two used vehicles are identical your choices are widened by taking into consideration mileage, equipment, and condition. By making a some concessions you can get a car you want at a lower price or get more equipment and options without spending more money. You want to get as much value as possible for you dollar and a used vehicle opens up options that you may have thought were out of your budget.

Now that is not to say that there are no costs associated with buying a used car but they are significantly less. There is no national advertising budget that has to be paid for. Most used vehicles are traded in or bought at local auctions, this reduces the transport cost to the dealership. If there are aftermarket accessories on the car chances are that they were traded in that way and that save you money too.

What Makes You Feel Good?

Ask yourself this question, "What makes you feel good?" What is the first thing that pops to your mind?

Today the Larry H. Miller Used Car Supermarket staff made themselves feel good doing good for others. Three month's ago a company wide contest was won by our dealership with a $5,000 cash prize up for grabs. When Travis Johnson told our CEO Mr. Greg Miller that our staff wanted to donate the prize money to Primary Children's Hospital he surprised us by one upping us. He gave a check for the Sales Staff and a second check to be donated to Primary Children's Hospital.

Travis met with Sharon and Marie at Primary Children's Hospital about our desire to help. Together with the Primary Children's staff they opted to purchase 25 XBOX 360's to be donated to the Nero Trauma Unit at the hospital. When we walked in with a cart of XBOX 360's you could see the delight in their eyes. These units will be installed into the rooms of the Nero Trauma Unit to be used on a daily basis as opposed to being on a list to use an out dated VCR or Nintendo 64 for a couple of hours.

These are the things the make us feel good. Our involvement with Primary Children's Hospital doesn't end with a simple donation. On June 6th Travis Johnson and Mike Gore will be making an appearance on the Primary Children's Telethon matching donations from the viewers.
We want to thank Mr. Greg Miller for the opportunity that was given to our dealership to make ourselves feel good by doing good for others.
